Audition tip # 1

As an actor auditioning is your job.

The audition is your opportunity to demonstrate your skills as an actor.  Often we see actors rush through their audition and hurry out.  You have invested a lot of time, energy and training into preparing for your auditions so please take your time when delivering your performance.

Jan directs AZWT production of “ME”

Review by Lynn Trimble in Raising Arizona Kids:

I was pleased to see a good crowd of both women and men at Friday night’s “Pandora Showcase” presented by the Arizona Women’s Theatre Company — mostly young professionals, but some with several more years of life and theater-going under their belt. “Showcase 1,” which will be presented again Fri, Nov. 18, runs about 2 1/2 hours and includes five short works.

I found the second work, titled “Me,” infinitely more enchanting. It’s the tale of a writer who stumbles into a room where a sort of future self, her destiny, awaits. They banter back and forth about the relative merits of knowing, or not knowing, what’s coming down the road. The play ponders a serious question without pontificating and the actors deliver a solid performance. Directed by Jan Williams starring Jane Fendelman and Meredith Yeomans.

What actors are saying:

Hi Garth & Jan!

I wanted to let you know I had an amazing first month with both of you and would highly recommend this class to anyone interested in “getting back to the basics” of acting.  You are an incredibly talented team and are such a pleasure to train with.  Having the opportunity to work and learn from two people who have so much experience in the industry as well as a gift for teaching is something you won’t find anywhere else in Phoenix.  And as an actor on a budget, this class makes it easy for me to get the training I need without having to sacrifice in other areas of my life.  I almost can’t believe how inexpensive the classes are especially for the amount of individual attention you give to each actor – definitely worth the investment.  I am also very excited to present a showcase in the following months so we can show other casting directors and agencies how much local actors can benefit from a program like this.  You have created such a safe and wonderful space for actors to learn how to be, well, actors again (imagine that!).  Seriously though, I can’t thank you enough for everything that you do!

Regards,

Lisa

Actors’ Weekly Workout Week 1

Last night was our first work out of the year!

So many dedicated actors showed up ready to start the year off right by sharpening their acting skill set.  We had two ambitious actors show up even though registration was full in the hopes of garnering a spot in class. So, we have opened another night to ensure everyone can experience direction, feedback, personalized attention, one-on-one coaching and more opportunities to work “on their feet.”
